I usually leave the "Quote This" quotes to Wayne, but I couldn't pass this one up.
"She has been waiting to squeeze you for three days!"

Small World
Just got a call from my sister. Apparently, the guy who did this is her ex-boyfriend's best friend from college.
What should my next car be?
Post in comments.
Keep in mind that I used to drive a '93 civic and currently I'm driving a '99 cougar.

A Brief Hiatus
According to my latest user stats, I've posted over 1,200 times and have written 86,488 words. I think that entitles me to a short break, don't you? Others might suggest I need to take a long break. Well this thing has become a bit of a chore so it'll probably do me some good to take a break. I'll be back to posting on Monday.
Until then, I leave you in the more than capable hands of Deli77, Sean, Bunny, and USCtrins.

Got Called Into A Private Meeting With The SBA Prez
It felt as if we were being called into the principal's office. Thought Yaz and I were going to get bitched out for all the laughing we did during the SBA meeting. But it wasn't that at all. Probably shouldn't say more because it was a private meeting.
Best Dad Ever?
The dad of Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis. After all, the guy did build his son, 12 years-old at the time, a big bed made from four mattresses. Awesome.

Still Waiting...
Some time yesterday they said it could erupt within 24 hours. More than 24 hours later, I'm beginning to think this whole Mount St. Helens thing is a fraud perpetrated on the public to give nerdy, lonely scientists some face time on tv.
Ay Nako!
Yup, that phrase was directed at me more than once at PABA's Annual Merienda, which I attended yesterday. A typical exchange between me and board members:
Board Member: When you're a lawyer, you're friends and family will hate you because you won't have any time for them.Bad filipino jokes were the norm for me. As well as shit talking about Loyola since more than half the board was from there. Yeah... I represented well.
Me: They already hate me.
Board Member: Well then your friends, family, and your dog will hate you.
Me: I hate dogs.
Board Member: You don't like dogs?
Me: I was kidding. I love dogs. They taste great.
Speaking Of Vick
Since beating the Dallas Cowboys in their franchise debut three seasons ago, the Houston Texans have been trying to win two in a row. The pursuit became such a big deal that quarterback David Carr vowed last September he wouldn't cut his hair until it happened. Now contrast that to what Michael Vick of the Atlanta Falcons is doing.
"I'm growing my hair out it, and I'm not going to cut it until we win a Super Bowl," Vick said. "I was going to let my hair grow last season, but I cut it three weeks before I got hurt. I'm really superstitious, so I'm going to let it grow. As bad as I want it off my head, and as hot as I am, I won't cut it off until I win a Super Bowl. I will win a Super Bowl -- someday."It's only the first weekend of October and one man has already achieved his goal while another continues his pursuit.
Best Commercial Right Now
The Michael Vick Experience
It's the commercial where the kid is straped on for what looks like an amusement park ride. He then enters a football field. The ball is passed to him and he runs up field, cutting left and right, then flips over a defender and into the endzone. This description, of course, does no justice to the actual commercial.

Football Lesson No. One
Pac-Ten wins by offense. Big-Ten wins by defense. Therefore scores don't really matter. Hence, UCLA's win against San Diego State does NOT mean that it's better than Michigan's win against San Diego State just because they won by more than a field goal. In the end, all that matters is the "W."
If More Than One Says So, It Must Be True
It's Only A Job Until You Decide It's A Career
I read a few law student blogs. Not a lot; and some more than others. Some really amuse me; some provoke a lot of thought; some annoy the hell out of me. The ones that annoy me annoy me for different reasons. It’s not their politics. It’s their air of panic about on campus interviewing, their stress over where their careers will take them, or their decisions during first year as to what their practice areas are going to be. Everyone needs to calm down. I’m not doing today what I thought I would be doing when I was interviewing for 2L summer positions, and it’s not what I thought I’d be doing when I graduated, and it’s not even what I thought I’d be doing two years ago. Careers like lives have twists in them. You really shouldn’t plan too much beyond doing the best job you can and being alert to opportunities and open to possibilities. What I got from it, is that most likely, I'll go through several jobs as a lawyer before settling into a career as one. Now go read the whole thing or just read the last part here.
Remember, most lawyers who aren’t schmucks make a decent living. If you’re certain that you need Skadden Arps partner money in order to be happy, you should first take a look at what else is wrong with your life, because you’ll probably find out that the money isn’t as satisfying as you thought it was going to be. A low six figure income is a helluva lot more than most Americans can ever hope to make, and it lets you live pretty good in most of the country, and even not half bad in New York City.
Now, more of my thoughts on what’s the matter with kids today. Oy, the crazy music and the skimpy clothes on the girls, with the low rise jeans and the belly piercing and the tattoos; and all the time with the Internet and the blogs and the IMing. When I was young lawyer during the early Clinton years blah blah blah harrumph harrumph harrumph hock up phlegm. Hey, where’s my nitroglycerin? My heart. I got angina. Oy!The comments that follow the post are worth reading too.
GO DODGERS!

Regarding celebrations of sporting achievements, it's been said that you should act as if you've done it before - with the exception of winning the championship when you're more than expected to let it all out. So yes, the Dodgers may have only clinched the division, well short of winning the World Series. And they seemed to celebrate as if they did accomplish that ultimate goal. And I know winning division titles may be old hat for teams like the Braves and the Yankees. But please excuse the team and their fans for being overly excited. It's been nine long years for the Boys in Blue, an agonizing nine years for their fans. And if you still think it was excessive, just wait to see what happens if they should actually win the whole damn thing. It's been sixteen years since that last happened.

Jon 892: ya but...i mean...GW is top tier and southwestern is 3rd tier...i was hoping the amount of work was correlated with the ranking
Jon 892: ....not that i think this is a bad school...the reason i came here was because of the starting salaries
Jon 892: ...which are incredibly high for where the school is ranked
Bruin7089: haha
Bruin7089: it's inversely related
Bruin7089: if you read my stupid blog

Bruin7089: you'll be much happier that way
Jon 892: ya i know
Jon 892: so did a lot of people your frosh year just pretty much fail out? or is it actually made out to be more than it really is?
Bruin7089: nah
Bruin7089: well
Bruin7089: the thing is
Bruin7089: some people dropped out
Bruin7089: before they could fail out
Bruin7089: or thought they would fail out
Bruin7089: only about 13% failed out
Bruin7089: but a lot more dropped out
Bruin7089: and fuckers just speculate
Bruin7089: and assume that everyone who didn't return
Bruin7089: failed out
Bruin7089: so don't listen to the talk
Bruin7089: they're just ignorant
Jon 892: ya...im not worried about failing out...just moreso about finishing relativley high in the class
Bruin7089: don't think about that so much though
Bruin7089: just do what you have to do
Bruin7089: and let the chips fall where they may
Bruin7089: if you take that attitude
Bruin7089: you'll do better
Bruin7089: and be much happier
Bruin7089: trust me
