Someone I was romantically interested in expressed the oft said sentiment that she should let herself go physically in the hopes of finding someone interested in her for the right reasons - I do realize a certain level of vanity is implied.

I don't think she was all that serious but it led me to ask her if she thought it was better for someone to be interested in someone for who they are or what they could become. She went with both.

I was reminded of this brief conversation because a friend of mine, who wants to remain nameless, - but really people, if you can't figure who it is among my few friends then you're either really new to me or an idiot - is going through a bit of the same self-doubt I just went through when the aforementioned romantic interest of mine rejected me. His self-doubt came about when he got the vibe, from a girl he was really into, that she was nowhere into it as he was. By the way, life is a bit easier when you're going through a down period and a friend is going through the same thing.

Friend: Yeah. Time to move on. Too bad too. Really cool, fun girl.
Me: No shit... I know that feeling... It's going to be better though when you find the same type of girl but she's into you too... That's what I tell myself anyway to help move on...just gotta believe.
Friend: Starting to not believe. Like there must be some flaw I need to fix.
Me: I thought same and then told myself I'd use it as motivation to make myself better so that next girl like her can't turn me down
Friend: But to make yourself better you have to know what to fix.
Me: Fix everything.

Anyway, I get it, me and my friend are retarded when it comes to girls. But what I want to say - and I know I took the long way to get to this point - is that instead of letting oneself go, it's better to personally strive to be the best and for others to recognize how we are trending rather than what we currently are or could be.

Anyway, a lot about nothing.

Pay off all credit card debt - this might actually take more than a year if I want some discretionary income each month, so I may have to revise. - Still working on this.
Find BBQ in Texas better than Dr. Hogly Wogly's - Haven't had anything close, not sure if I have even tried any since the year began.

How Short of Perfect?

It has been brought to my attention that my list is overly demanding and that I should maybe shoot for something like 70% or even less than that.

Which brings up the old question, how short of one's ideal of a perfect mate should one settle for? Is settling even acceptable? Would I just be dooming myself to an unmarried - apparently, marriageless isn't a real word, thank you spell check - life if I keep the standard too close to perfection? Or would I be dooming myself - and another - to a disappointing marriage by straying too far from perfect? Too close or too far, is there even a balance to strike here between the extremes? Or should it be a go big or go home mentality? I'm guessing this largely depends on how important getting married is to one's life.

Well, I think one of the reasons this Supreme Court is so prominent – compared to the Supreme courts of other countries – is because of the dissent. The dissent combined with the case law system is the way the law is taught. You don’t have to write a commentary, and the professor doesn’t have to pick apart the opinion. You get both sides just from the U.S. report. So it’s somewhat of a self-contained academy here, and I think that gives us greater prestige.

Not sure what #3 is doing there. People searching for information on "legal professions exam"? It's not a real exam people. I guess I can chalk that up to the title of the post and those who think looking up their horoscopes is good life advice.

#2 reminds me that I need help approaching the ladies in an appropriate manner. It's actually a question I'm going to want to revisit, so expect that post.

#4 is about the MPRE which is boring.

#5 tells me that people are either worried about their relationships heading into law school, as well they should be. Brandy called it expectedly anticlimactic. It's probably because getting our bar result is the expected climactic event for most of us.

Hardly anything specific was memorable about today's event at the Shrine. Thanks to Brian, most of the time during the ceremony itself was spent pondering whose famous ass may have once occupied my seat. He said his felt like it had Scarlett Johansson's, which meant that with my luck the most famous person whose seat I had was the guy schtooping Scarlett Johansson - I guess I should be honored.

Not a day to remember about specifics, I think what I'll take away from it are things in general, like the long wait; laughing beforehand; not recognizing a lot of the names called; and just seeing people for the last time unless I bump into them in Ontario for the two month reunion.

I remember back when you had to earn your C+'s at Southwestern, nowadays they're giving away B's like everyone is a 3L in a class of less than 20.
I remember back when you had to play spider solitaire to pass away the time in class, nowadays you can go online wirelessly from any classroom and check MySpace.
I remember back when there were no benches, patio furniture, grass, or donated bricks in the promenade, we actually had to sit our asses on asphalt if we wanted to sit out in the promenade.
I remember back when the corner taco stand had a grade of “C”, now they’re an “A” showing that the new grading curve at Southwestern could have been better still.
I remember back when the food from the corner taco stand was pretty tasty.
I remember back when the Awards Banquet for the honors programs was referred to as "prom", nowadays there's also a Barrister's Ball which has become the actual law school prom.
I remember back when the doughnuts at the vending machine were going for a dollar, nowadays they're $1.25.
I remember back when you didn't have to pay for a side of salad dressing at the Tea Room.
I remember back when you could download onto your computer past exams, nowadays it’s copy and paste and the formatting is all eff’d up.

The one constant since the beginning to this day? The crappiness of this blog. It’s never been about quality, it used to be about quantity, now it’s just about being consistently crappy. Nothing like staying regular I suppose.

Beethoven's Third I Think

So everyone was up at the second floor of Westmoreland last night and by everyone I mean all of ITAP plus one filipino and a few strangers here and there. And those fuckers from ITAP were loud and noisy as they prepared for their final mock trial, which is fine by me since I know there are better places than the second floor of Westmoreland for peace and quiet to study, especially when ITAP is around. Of course, one law student, actually studying for finals, took exception and put on her headphones to listen to some classical music. I, nor anyone else, would have noticed except that she had plugged in her headphones into the microphone jack rather than the appropriate headphone jack. For a while, the serious and obviously cultured law student didn't notice her mistake and only turned the volume up higher and higher on her laptop probably wondering what was wrong with either the audio on her laptop, her headphones, or wondering just how loud those fuckers from ITAP can be. It wasn't until her music filled the second floor and everyone else quieted down to get a sense of where that music was coming from that she finally realized her mistake.

Anyway, Brian could hardly contain himself and shared that he did something similar once with this song - be sure to turn your volume way up to have the same effect his sleeping roommate had.

Last Day Of Classes

Excited? Happy? Sad? In denial? I don't quite know what to think about or more precisely how to feel about this day. With a paper coming due, then finals, graduation, bar prep, and the bar itself following each other in lockstep (not to mention watching the NBA playoffs, The OC, American Idol, playing amazing defense whenever Brian finds himself a good tipper spoon - or is it tipping spoon?, and other essential time wasting habits) I haven't really had the time to give it much consideration.
